Memorial Day 2009

It’s hard to believe that the official start of summer is here and what a glorious weekend it was. After 25 beautiful years as a Golf Professional in Northern Michigan it is these weekends that remind me why we live where we do.

Everything has greened up nicely on both courses and it is so nice to see the families and friends who come through the doors year after year with smiles on their faces as they take time from their hectic lives and enjoy the wonderful things… a round of golf with people you care for, the laughter, frustration, challenges and rewards that one finds on the course. So many of these people seem to have a true appreciation of their good fortune. We are so blessed to enjoy our freedoms and I hope that you took all the time to honor those who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy this great country of ours.

There is plenty of excitement going on as we are getting ready to open here soon. We are of course hoping that Coach Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans bring home the NCAA Championship tonight at Ford field. Go Green! I have been around the courses and they have come through the winter in great shape. We will once again be offering our FREE GOLF through Mother’s Day. Everyone pays only the $25 cart fee Monday through Thursday with a $10 surcharge Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I hope to see you all out here soon.

This year we have Sheri, Erica, Craig and Jason coming back in the golf shops. So you’ll see some familiar smiling faces when you walk through our doors. Be sure to sign up and tell your friends about our unbelievable Chief Membership we are offering this season. For only $129 you can play Monday through Thursday and for only $199 you can play everyday except Saturday, cart fees not included. If you sign up before May 1st you will receive one free round on Hawk’s Eye, cart not included. As a Chief member, you will also receive a special rate on the cart fees during the season of $20 per person for 18 holes and $12 per person for 9 holes. We already have over 220 members signed up and we will be forming leagues, tournaments and having all kinds of fun at The Chief this year. This year there will be special rates for Chief Member Guests of only $39 for 18 holes with cart Monday through Thursday and only $49 for 18 holes with cart Friday through Sunday on The Chief all season long.

What a beautiful sunny day in Northern Michigan. Although it is still quite chilly out it is finally starting to seem that we are going to start putting what in my 25 years (wow a quarter of a century) is the snowiest and coldest winter that an old man like me can remember in the rear view mirror.

The official sign of spring in the Michigan golf season is of course The West Michigan Golf Show held every year at The DeVos Center in Grand Rapids. This year the show was extremely well attended with everyone excited about the opportunity to scratch their golf itch. We saw many of the groups who have stayed with us in the past stop by to say hi and see about coming back for another great vacation at The Hawk’s Eye Resort home of two great courses, the finest accommodations and tons of other activities in beautiful northern Michigan.

Sheri has been busy busting out the quotes and lots of groups have been locking in their dates for the 2009 season. We figured you may have missed us so we thought we would catch you up!

Sheri and myself just kicked off the golf show circuit in the beautiful city of Columbus, Ohio. All the golfers at the show were excited with thoughts of the upcoming golf season. Attendance was very good and the people of the Buckeye State were very receptive to the idea of heading north to play some golf in beautiful northern Michigan. I wonder if the fact that Michigan has such a tough football season had anything to do with it. Believe it or not, we actually felt some compassion from the Buckeyes.

Many of the attendees had either heard of or actually been to Michigan for a golf vacation. As usual the golfers were quite impressed by the beautiful pictures of our two award winning courses, The Four Star Rated Chief and Hawk’s Eye - Voted the 4^th Best Course in Michigan. They were really blown away when they saw our show DVD featuring the great courses and tours of our fantastic accommodations. Whether it’s our deluxe hotel, The Legend Cottage Inn, our fabulous Chief Golf Cottages, the impressive Hawk’s Eye Clubhouse Condos, or the amazing Timber Lodge there is someplace special for everyone to kick back at after another amazing day of golf at Hawk’s Eye Resort.

The 2008 golf season is winding down and we just closed Hawk’s Eye this week.  The Chief will remain open through October 31st on our FREE GOLF promotion.  If you have an opportunity to sneak in your last round of Northern Michigan golf for the year call 866-Chief-18 for a tee time.

Through the season many of our guests asked me what I do in the winter, if I go to Florida to play golf or hang out on the beach.  I just smile and think to myself “that would be nice,” but our entire staff is gearing up for a great 2009 golf season.   We’re just putting the final touches on our brochure for next season.  Many of our past golf groups will have heard from or will soon be hearing from Sheri or Vonda about the possibility booking your 2009 Golf Extravaganza at The Hawk’s Eye and Chief Golf Resort!  As always, we will be offering any group that books and gets their deposit in by December 31st, 2008 the opportunity to save on your next golf vacation by locking in at our 2008 rates.
